Today’s Earworms (8/31/05)

Today’s earworms are from lesser known bands.

First, there’s She’s Dead from a local Boston band named Jim’s Big Ego.  I’ve always suspected that this was a parody of that dreadful song from the 70s, Seasons in the Sun, but I’ve never been sure.  I’m fond of JBE.  Be sure to check out their web site at, and click on the Radio JBE link to listen to more of their stuff.  Another favorite of mine is Track 6 on their latest CD, They’re Everywhere.  I mean, everyone knows someone like that, right?  (If bad words offend you, do not listen to Track 6.)

Then there’s Breathin’ from The Asylum Street Spankers.   This one is on my mind because I’ve just been listening to the album it’s on, and because the Red-Haired Boy and I are going to their show tonight.  RHB took me to one of their shows on our first date.  “Breathin'” is a nice introduction because it is one of their few songs that is not about drugs or sex.  (Well, OK, maybe it’s just a teeny bit about sex.)  They are fantastically talented performers who play everything from guitar to double-bass to ukelele to washboard to musical saw to pile of rusted metal in the back of someone’s pickup truck.
